Upcoming Project:

new building for the St. Robert Bellarmine Preparatory School –

Infant Department

Chapelton, Jamaica

Christos Supporters,

We are excited to tell you about our next project; to provide a new building for the St. Robert Bellarmine Preparatory School – Infant Department in Chapelton, Jamaica.

St. Robert Bellarmine Preparatory School was founded in 1962. The school serves approximately 12 communities surrounding the Chapelton area. The high academic performance of its students, along with the school’s vibrant extracurricular program and dedicated staff, have resulted in a long student waiting list and strong potential for increased enrollment.

The challenge is that the current school building was built to accommodate 50 students, yet the numbers have since nearly tripled. This has resulted in overcrowding, combining multiple grades in one classroom space, and the conversion of spaces originally intended for other uses.

The school has four classrooms. One hundred seventy-six students are currently enrolled, which includes 140 students in grades one to six and 36 in the infant department (ages 3 to 6). As a result, spacing in the classroom is limited, which creates a safety hazard in the event of a fire. The rooms are also hot, dark and have poor ventilation.

More than 25 6th-grade students crammed into a small space

The expanded St. Robert Bellarmine Preparatory School — Infant Department will provide ample space to meet the needs of the infant students (ages 3 to 6) and alleviate the overcrowding for the remaining students and faculty.

With your generous donations, we will construct a building with the following rooms and features:

o A kitchen

o Four classrooms

o Flooring and tiling

o Sanitation facilities

o Water harvesting system and water supply lines

o Fire protection (smoke detectors and fire extinguishers)

o Four ceiling fans

o Playground equipment

o Perimeter fencing

The effect of this building on the children, teachers, and community cannot be underestimated. It is our sincerest hope that you will be a part of contributing to the efforts to provide a wonderful learning environment for the children of the Chapelton area and enable the dedicated educators to challenge, motivate, and inspire learning.

Our fundraising goal for this project is $160,000. We want you to know that no donation is too small and that 98.9% of all donations go directly to the activities in support of the project.
